Catherine’s Classic Sugar Cookies

Catherine’s Sugar Cookies

  • Ingredients: Sugar, Crisco/butter, eggs, water, vanilla, baking powder, and flour.

 1 cup Sugar
 1 cup Butter
 2 EggsWell beaten
 1 tbsp Water
 1 tbsp Vanilla Extract
 1 tsp Baking Powder
 2 cups All-purpose flour

Cream the Base:
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the sugar and Crisco (or butter) until light and fluffy.

Add Wet Ingredients:
Beat the eggs well and add them to the creamed mixture. Stir in the water and vanilla extract. Mix until combined.

Incorporate Dry Ingredients:
In a separate bowl, sift together ½ cup of flour and the baking powder. Gradually add this to the wet mixture, stirring until smooth.

Form the Dough:
Slowly add the remaining flour, about 1 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms (approximately 2 cups total). Avoid overmixing.

Roll and Cut:
Lightly flour a clean surface and roll the dough out very thin (about ⅛ inch thick). Use cookie cutters to create shapes.

Bake:
Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

Cool and Enjoy:
Allow the cookies to cool on a wire rack. These cookies are perfect for decorating or enjoyed plain!
